The learner's professional competence as a painter is primarily what it aims to confirm. Being a work-related, competence-based certification, it will, upon completion, indicate to employers, industry managers, and card schemes that learners have the skills and knowledge required to reach the nationally recognised standard to carry out their selected role.

Candidates must exhibit the knowledge at the unit's requisite level. The process of comparing a candidate's knowledge and comprehension to the standards outlined in the qualification is called assessment.
Each applicant is needed to provide proof that they have met all of the unit's learning objectives and evaluation standards.
