NVQ Level 2 · Plant Operations (NVQ)
NVQ Level 2 — Plant Operations (NVQ)
NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations is not a single generic qualification — it's assessed per machine category, mirroring the CPCS and NPORS categories you already hold a Red "Trained Operator" card in. Its purpose is to evidence your on-site experience so you can upgrade that Red card to a Blue "Competent Operator" card. This leads to a Blue CPCS or Blue NPORS card — not a CSCS card (CPCS/NPORS is a separate card scheme from CSCS, even though both are common on UK sites). See our Plant Operations NVQ pages to find your specific machine category and its exact entry requirement.
What It Covers
- Safe, competent operation of your specific machine category, evidenced from your existing on-site work
- Pre-use checks and safe operating procedures specific to that category
- Site safety awareness relevant to plant operations
Entry Requirements
Varies by machine category — most require holding the relevant Red CPCS or NPORS card for that category plus a minimum period of verifiable experience (typically 6 months). See the Plant Operations NVQ index for the exact requirement per machine.
How It Works
Assessed through a portfolio of evidence you build up on-site — photos of your work, witness statements from your supervisor, and professional discussion with your assessor. Most learners complete this within 1–3 months.
Leads To
A Blue CPCS Competent Operator card or Blue NPORS Operator Card, depending on which scheme your Red card was issued under — not a CSCS card.
